| | Dead Man's Handle, Peter O'Donnell | ] | Went to the Charing Cross Hospital today for someone new to stick pins in my leg and suck their teeth. This time it was a cheerful young chap in surgeon's scrubs - he would have fitted in well as an extra in ER.
In order to demonstrate where the dodgy nerves ran, and to give me a crash-course in medical terminology, he lounged back in his swivel chair and spread his legs apart. Then he told me to drop my trousers and he stuck something sharp in me.
Ahem. For those who haven't been following this saga, I have a couple of patches on my legs where there's either no feeling or sharp pain and the theory is that trapped nerves are causing this. So every specialist who examines me starts jabbing pins into my legs to see where there's feeling and where there isn't.
The long and the short of it is that he's referred me for more tests - they're going to plug an electric current into me somewhere where the nerves are definitely working (above the waist probably) and then stick a load of electrodes in my legs to see where the current comes out and where it doesn't. That'll confirm or explode the diagnosis before they start slicing me up.
So, a constructive visit. Unfortunately, it's cost me a day's earnings as the appointment was slap bang in the middle of the day. He was an hour late seeing me and I was in and out in five minutes...
In other news, most of the people on my friends' list here on DJ seem to be depressed about one thing or another. Either that, or just plain run down. (Exceptions: redhotcivicchic, who seems to be enjoying some long-overdue good times, deadwendi, moving to be with the man of her dreams, and nathaara, who's almost permanently cheerful. I don't know how she does it but I envy her for it.) It's as if someone flicked a switch about a week ago and people's lives changed. It's almost enough to make you believe in astrology. Guys, stick with it - things go in cycles and if you're down now you'll be up again soon, honest.
I'm going now - a chinese takeaway just arrived at the door :o) |

Hehe, damn doctors, they prodded me for years, and never found out what was wrong with me. And then it just went away anyways. Hrm.
Though when I was born i had no soft spot and got spinal mengitis, so most everything probably related to that somehow.
As for the moods, i havent read my horoscope in a long time. maybe i should.

Well, glad it was a constructive visit. I think there is a rule that hospital visits are late. As to horoscopes, the only ones i ever read are on The Onion Glad i'm not sagittarius :-D
they're going to plug an electric current into me somewhere where the nerves are definitely working (above the waist probably) you mean YOU HOPE ;)
He was an hour late seeing me and I was in and out in five minutes...
I sympathise with that, the amount of appts its happened to me *sigh* Hope everything is sorted sooner or later *hugs*
I wish someone would flick my switch back on.
I wish I got paid to be depressed.Life sucks! Eat me! Wah wah yeah hey now now!
!!! You IMed me, but I was at the hockey game :o(
One of the many things I don't understand about this IM business yet is why people leave it running when they're not there...
So, do you reckon the Stars can go all the way this year?
YES! We're badass. I left up an away message cuz I was away!
Well, yes. I can see the logic in that I suppose :o)

and nathaara, who's almost permanently cheerful. I don't know how she does it but I envy her for it.
My choir director has the following quote in big letters, framed, hanging in her office window:
"The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty."
That's my motto, almost. The other half of my "good mood" comes from not letting the little things (and people) get in my way. Yeah, I get annoyed or pissed off at people every so often, but I realize that they are just not quite mature enough to handle the world yet and decide to take out their frustrations on the nearest thing with two legs. I understand that and don't begrudge them for it... and we get along just fine. :)
And, no, you're not the only one who has noticed my abnormal ability to smile at everything. It's right up there with the hanging gardens of babylon and the pyramids at Giza, according to some of my friends.
So... my suggestion: Smile more. People will wonder what you're up to. ;) It does work, though... if you find one thing, no matter how small, that was good in your day, congratulate yourself for it and go to sleep thinking that tomorrow that grain of goodness will multiply. Okay? :)
