Voodoo taxi Feb. 27th, 2003|03:50 pm

The dodgy computer at home is dominating everything at the moment. Still no idea how to fix it, short of backing everything up and running the manufacturer's reset disk - a risky business.

Spent all yesterday evening trawling through the Microsoft Knowledge Base but nothing I did had any effect. I went elbow-deep into MS-DOS to extract obscure Windows files with strangled, abbreviated names from the cab files where they were hibernating (and to experience a serious nostalgia-hit for the days when MS-DOS was almost all there was). I uninstalled and then re-installed the dial-up networking software. I sacrificed chickens, chanted dark chants and invoked bloodthirsty voodoo spirits. All to no avail. I ended with exactly the same error message that I'd started with and had evidently collected few more to add to the set.

Not exactly overjoyed, I will admit.
