Three in the morning and once again I can't sleep... this is getting more than a little irritating. |

| I passed! |

Well, today started bizarrely - I got a letter from the Lib Dem's Parliamentary candidates' office enclosing the official report / feedback from the assessment day I sat in order to be accepted as a possible candidate - way back in January 2001. They told me on the day that I'd passed, but apparently the candidates' officeis so busy that this is the first opportunity they've had to send out the feedback. I find this entirely believeable.
It seems the criterion on which I came closest to failing was my press and PR skills, which is a bit ironic all things considered - but this, too, is entirely believeable...
Last night's burst of insomnia ended at about 5am, and then I was up at nine to drive astrofiammante to the station - a thinly disguised ploy on my part to ensure I didn't sleep until the afternoon. Having done that, today I have been mainly scanning photos. A few weeks before I left the Royal Mail I bought a new scanner as the old one was to all intents and purposes knackered. The new one has a small feeder tray for photographs and can whistle 24 through in about four minutes. So far I've scanned over 860 photos from the last two decades, with the aim of saving them all on CD. What's a fiddly and time-consuming job when each photo has to be done individually on the scanner bed becomes as easy as kiss my hand with the feeder. Neat!
One thing I miss from the Royal Mail is the lunch trips to Wagamamas. So this lunch time I made myself a Thai green curry (the sauce was bought in error - it has fish stock in it, which astrofiammante can't eat although I can) and am eating it from a black pottery noodle bowl using a pair of chopsticks liberated (unused) from Wagamamas. It's not quite the same thing, but it's pleasantly nostalgic and it also makes me feel less of a slob because I've put some effort into cooking. |
